At Sacuanjoche, we are proud of the diversity of our students and our staff. Our students hail from countries all across the globe and are proud to share their cultures and traditions with us.
Sacuanjoche is unique in that it is an integrated school model: students from different socioeconomic classes and racial and ethnic backgrounds learn and play together. This model of education is rare in both developed and developing nations. Today, the majority of schools in the US for example, are still segregated. Research shows that integration has significantly positive impacts, particularly on poor children. Development programs typically keep poor children ‘ghettoed’ with other poor children which severely curtails outcomes. Through our 35% scholarship program, Nicaraguan kids from poor communities are exposed to new opportunities, values and assumptions about what they can achieve. Research also shows that white and/or high income children benefit from integration, and although academic success remains the same, there is significant improvement in the ability to work creatively, harder, and smarter. Prejudice is reduced and empathy increases for children in non-segregated schools.
Parents choose Sacuanjoche because they want their children to grow up to become compassionate and socially responsible world citizens.
